Plants and Shoes

Flowers from my yard ( a few are actually not in this bouquet -like the Cecile Brunner Rose) , shoes on a boy and a detail of a painted crystal.

chicken meditation

It's been a week full of long work hours. My only respite has been watching our new chickens -a 'teen' and two "toddlers" who are making a very cute threesome as they are slowly getting to know each other. It is amazingly relaxing to watch them peck around or find rest under the Adirondack chair.

This week was a week of protest -more than I have attended in a long time. On Thursday I listened to many Native American leaders protesting the planned coal train terminal on our coast, Saturday the Shell Oil drilling in the Arctic ( how much more crazy can we humans get ?!?!) and yesterday  we supported the teacher strike to fun dour schools properly. Isn't it crazy how parents have to buy hand sanitizer, pencils, paper and tissue for our schools ? I say: More bake sales for the Pentagon !
That and the work in the studio -I a bushed.

sHell No !

The Arctic Oil Rig was anchored  in Seattle .What can I possibly write about that? How much more insane can we get. Talks by Natives from various tribes as far as South Dakota came, sang and talked.  I wished WAY more folks had showed up to honor these folks and all that came out with kayaks or stood in the water in a polar bear suit !!  The ball field -not sure for what game -on our way home looked packed...

weekend and work

The weekend already seems light years away, but we were quite busy doctoring chickens ( bumble foot ), introducing a new pullet, taking one pullet to be put down ( nerve damage, very sad), making a costume for my daughter's biography night persona 'Joan of Arc"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_of_Arc ( a clairvoyant of her time and of course paid for her visions in the end...) and prepping all my panels for the next show. Oh, and then we had Mother's Day. Hope you were loved and celebrated as a mom.

Faces

I think my favorite part in painting is working on the faces. In a way each painting stands or falls with the face that radiates out from it and gives it its life.
I am constantly trying to improve. I am feeling particularly successful with the lips these days.

The power of ceremony

A little over a year ago we spend the day with our teacher Barbara http://www.soulproprietor.org/
at Echo Lake where she lives and works during one of our monthly ceremonies gatherings http://www.soulproprietor.org/moms-and-kids/ .
That day we used her beautiful handmade rattles in a ceremony to heal the waters of the world. We also planted a few native plants to help restore the local lake.
A year later Snohomish County is coming to Echo Lake to restore the waterfront with one of our group members as lead designer.http://snohomishcountywa.gov/2742/LakeWise-Shorelines.

The power of ceremony and song!

If you are looking for a place to move into ceremony and crafting rattles, drums or your own pair of moccasins -check out Barbara's offerings .http://www.soulproprietor.org/events/
A place to refill your soul.
