One more week

The countdown is on.I have one more week to wrap everything up before I go on a long vacation.
I am extremely looking forward to it.
Everyone needs vacations, but I do think that when you are in a intensely creative field you need a lot of time to renew your well.In the past I have had summers where I just took a week or a weekend here and there and in the end did not feel rejuvenated and excited to be back in the studio. What works for me is to be away for 4 weeks minimum.

I have been working like mad -my deadline is next Saturday. yesterday my foot started hurting from so much standing. It was nice that my husband and daughter left town, it gave me the freedom to follow my own schedule and just work and work and eat on the fly whatever I wanted without needing to cook. My little treats in between where a walk on the beach with the dogs, a little yoga and surfing pinterest. I found this wonderful photographer , Laura Burlton http://lauraburlton.com/chalk-dreams
Inspiration and maybe an art trade in the future? I have a small collection of b/w photos. Jock Sturgess and Keith Carter among them. tree of knowledge

The Right Balance

I read a very interesting article in ZEIT MAGAZIN the German equivalent of The New York  Times Magazine.
It looked at the tendency of so many people to hide from constant barrage of news ( most of them terrible) by becoming completely focused on the internal. Examples mentioned where the newish craft boom, yoga and mindfulness and the back to the land chic versus political engagement.
Interesting in particular to me is the existence of a magazine called Delayed Gratification http://www.slow-journalism.com/ which deals with articles of relevance ( politics, business) with a delay of 3 months, researching what really has relevance .
I think crafts, yoga, pretty blogs, chickens etc can become all absorbing and nothing but a fashion. I also think striking the right balance that connects us to a calming presence,  being alert to the daily wold matters and acting in the world to bring peace and environmental concern is the way to go.
